Hello,

I have a little problem with everly and magnolia, but think it could be a problem with more J51 templates.
When I use a dropdown in main menu, there's a beautiful "down arrow" - if FontAwesome is activated. If it's not, there's a ugly error, see screenshot "FontAwesomeOff.png" (and "FontAwesomeOn.png" for comparison).

I asked before for an feature to exclude external resources to be more GDPR-friendly, which could be considered when you're updating your templates for J4, so perhaps you could fix this in the same run?
For example, there's an UTF Arrow Icon to use instead if FontAwesome is deactivated: UTF-8 Triangle down
I can understand that the FontAwesome-Icon looks better, but there should be a fallback so it's not required for simple things.

I don't know where you used FontAwesome else, but perhaps you should check other features too. I like the option to deativate FontAwesome, because in some sites I don't need it - but have to turn in on for main menu etc. :(

And side question: How will we get noticed when our templates are J4 ready? I read the thread and can understand the questions of other customers - but can understand that the "when when when" question can be annoying too. So... perhaps a newsletter mail for not-forum-users, that you will notify (via newsletter) when each template is ready? Or a sticker on the front page too with a roadmap like november template one and two, december three and...? And twitter...

I think you're working hard on getting J4 ready, but a little bit more information can calm a lot. :)

Greetings and thanks in advance.

I think this "problem" is too irrelevant for further notice? :(

Hello

First of all, my apologies for the delay in getting to this post. I completely missed the initial post and it has taken me a few days to consider the best approach to resolve these issues.

We have just created a new update for the Everly template which has added 2 changes

Firstly we have converted all template icons to SVGs so they are no longer dependent on Font Awesome.

Secondly, we have added a feature to allow you to setup self-hosted Google fonts (Template Style settings -> General -> Self Host Fonts). For now, this does involve some manual steps which is not ideal as it is not possible for a Joomla template to download assets to the media folder which can only be achieved through a plugin. All steps involved are detailed within the template style settings. We will be looking into improving this feature in other ways (eg auto-create font-face CSS).

As a small token of thanks for your patience on this matter, I have made the Joomla 4 version of the Everly available for you to download.

Yes, certainly there is plenty of room for improvement on notifying when the Joomla 4 version of a template is available. Currently, all that is available is a Joomla 4 badge on our Browse Templates page. We do send out a newsletter providing a coupon for users who have previously purchased the Joomla 3 version of the template but that is usually a week or two after the template is released. I am always reluctant in sending out too many newsletters but maybe there is a happy medium. I will certainly start posting to Twitter as you suggested and consider other improvements in this area.
