Hi, I've been plugging lots of content (mostly text) into my site, which uses the Grafik template. This is an online counseling resource library site, displaying mostly lots of text. I am replacing an older site (previously built in Joomla 1.5 using a Joomlashack template.)

I am loving the look and feel of the Grafik template, the elegance that it gives to the overall look. Because I intend my site to be mostly a place for reading material, I chose the "Large" font, because it was the easiest to read. However, obviously, it also takes a lot of room on the page.

I'd like to break up all that text and make it more readable by using 1) Tables; 2) Smaller fonts in certain places in the text (such as longer quotations); 3) Special features possibly such as "accordians" I've seen on other sites. I'd like your advice, relative to using Grafik, on these things:

1) Tables - Are there any existing Table styles I need to be aware of in Grafik? I'm needing to use a lot of tables to organize and display text content. My early efforts have so far been rather frustrating. For example, I'll do tables where a picture is to the left, in a narrow column, and text appears on the right, filling the remaining space to the right-hand margin. But the pictures sometimes display wierd- not centered in the box, but stuck to the top. I tried going into the affected cells and changing the Vertical Alignment, to "Centered" but this made no change. Defining the height of cells also made no change. Also, I'd like to put some top-row colored headers on some of the tables, plugging in colors matching the template. Any suggestions on working with Tables in Grafik?

2) Font Size Changes - After having set the default font size in Grafik, can I change sections of the font to a smaller size within an article? If so, how and where?

3) Plugging in columns, block quotes, etc. to display text content. In studying out templates, I've seen a number of ways to display text creatively, including on Joomla 51's demo of Grafik. Can you describe how and where to plug in code for columned articles, framed boxes, block quotes, etc.? I see the code on the Grafik demo's "Typography" page, but am uncertain where or how to plug it in.

4) Plugging in "shortcode" - Is this a standard thing, and can I use it in Grafik? On several other template provider websites I saw reference to these things (for example, an "accordion" short code - see at http://demo.jlvextension.com, choose the "Versus" template, then "Shortcode / Accordian";) Is this "short code" some kind of standard thing that could be used in joomla 51 templates as well? Or is it a proprietary thing, specific to just a few template providers?

I'm loving the look Grafik is giving to my site! Thanks again for such a great product, and your great support and guidance along the way. -- Carrie

HI Carrie

1. Would you have a URL to your tables displaying some of the issues you are having? It is worth noting that tables are commonly avoided as they are largely non responsive however this will not be an issue if you do not intend to use the responsive features of the template.

2. Your WYSIWYG editor will allow you to make a selection within your article and set an alternative font size. This font size will over-rule the default font size.

3. Most of the elements shown on the typography page are created using simple HTML tags. Some basic HTML knowledge will be needed to implement these elements. When adding HTML I would suggest setting your editor to the 'CodeMirror' first.

4. 'Shortcodes' are not part of Joomla by default. Shortcodes have originated from the Wordpress CMS and some developers have transferred this idea over to Joomla.

Presuming you are using Joomla 3.x and familiar with HTML you could try implementing the Bootstrap accordion option... http://getbootstrap.com/javascript/#collapse

Alternatively you can try an accordion extension, something like.. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/news-display/articles-display/articles-showcase/14277
