For a number of our templates we had included the Autson Slideshow extension. Unfortunately it has comes to our attention that the developer of this extension had maliciously placed some SEO malware code into the markup of this extension which places hidden backlinks within your site on pages using the slideshow.

You can test your site for this malware at the following URL.. http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/

These backlinks may effect your site ranking on search engines and we strongly recommend removing this malicious code from your slideshow extension. To do so open up the slideshows default.php which you will find at ../modules/mod_AutsonSlideshow/tmpl/default.php and remove the following..

LINE 564 - Line 580

In some case you might also find the following at the very end of the same file which you should also remove...

<p class="dnn">By A <a href="http://www.autsxx.com/" title="web design company">Web Design</a></p>

Note that if you have only purchased your template recently the malicious code should already be removed.

Alternatively you can download our own J51_Slideshow which can be used in place of the Autson slideshow. This has been made available as a free download at the following dropbox URL... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69136519/J51Slideshow_unzip1st.zip

Thank you
Ciarán

Note that you may need to change the method by which you are displaying the code to be edited. Because the code is on this page, even though it's not being parsed, Avast shows this page as a virus. Perhaps you should use an image to show the code instead.

Thank you Enoctis for bringing this to our attention. I have replaced the code with an image as you have rightly suggested.

Hi Ciaran,

I've just read the post by enoctis and your reply. I'm using the Autson Slideshow on my site ... do I need to change anything, following this recent post?

Thanks

Hi Ciaran,

I have removed the code as suggested but the site scanner still states my site has malware content.
Alot of our uk customers use avast as an anti virus and therefore cannot access the site.

Site is http://www.pelmfg.com.
This the 3rd slideshow i've used on this template as i had issues with the other 2 so am reluctant to change, any suggestions.
I've attached the default script in case i missed something.
Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave

Your site may have been cached as it appears to be now showing up clean. Could I ask you to check this again for me.

Hi Ciaran,

I've received notification of a reply to a forum post via email, but I think the reply should have been made to davemurph24.

Hi Ciaran,

Just for your knowledge, AVG Antivirus is flagging this as malicious code... could this an error or do i need to scrub these files from the zips I have downloaded?

Hi Mark

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It appears some anti virus sotware is flagging the slideshow module as malware even thou all the malicious code has been removed. We are therefore in the process of removing this slideshow from all our templates and replacing it with our own J51_Slideshow.

Hey Ciaran!

I was working on qrmarketingsolutions.com, which uses Avenue. I don't remember when I bought it though. All of a sudden the
Auston Slideshow on front page quit working. I even opened up Chrome to check it.

I did enable a Videobox plug-in before refreshing the main page. This may be a conflict & wanted to ask you, because I checked settings again & haven't a clue. That is when I saw this main thread.

Attached is a screenshot of what http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ returned. It doesn't look like the screenshot you posted & .php scares me to death!

Is it the same thing or something different? Let me know if you need credentials.

Slainte,
Kat

Hi Kat

Yes this appears to be the same issue. I have prepared an install file which will update your slideshow for you, applying the above amendments... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/110280303/mod_slideshow_avenue25.zip

I have had to uninstall the Autson slide show to get my site back online. I installed the J51 Slideshow for Joomla 2.5 but the formatting is not good on my Revelation template. The showcase images show up on top of the menu. I have temporarily disabled the module until I can get the formatting fixed. Do you have a fix?
Thank you.

Nevermind, I have installed the updated Autson module and it seems to be working fine. Although site scanner is still flagging it. I'm assuming it is cached. Our company antivirus/malware (ESET) is allowing access again.
