is it possible to hide the graphic corner triangle as a design feature only in the slider/showcase?

To amend try adding the following to the Custom CSS field of your templates parameters (Extensions -> Templates -> [YourTemplateStyle] -> Custom CSS)....

div.layerslideshow .img-fill:after {

  display: none;

}
