is it possible to stop the j51_slideshomodule from looping when it gets to the end. I want the slideshow to stop when it gets to the last slide?

Sorry to say this option is not currently available with the SlideJS (http://www.slidesjs.com/) script which this module uses.

shame but thanks for letting me know.
Perhaps I can add the last slide in several times so it gives the impression it isn't changing. By the time it gets back to the first slide, visitors will be long gone

Is it possible to use a different slideshow image module (I tried widgetkit) in the "slideshow" position that will stretch 100% across the screen. When I tried widget kit, it wouldn't stretch beyond the confines of the site width.

This would very much depend on the slideshow module you are using. Would you have a URL to an example of your slideshow and I will see if it is possible with the use of some Custom CSS.
