Start new site on a Joomla 3 template now and upgrade later?

Hi Ciaran,

I am about to start a new site, I saw that as has always been the case for me in the past, Joomla 51 can be relied upon to deliver ongoing great support for their templates:

"Joomla51 do intend to make Joomla 4 versions of all templates in our current catalogue available for Joomla 4. We have just released the Joomla 4 version of our Nina template and will continue to work back through our catalogue, with the more recent releases available first. It is proving to be a slow process as Joomla 4 comes with some major changes but we are getting there."

My question is that if I start building the new site using a Joomla51 Joomla 3 template will it be a simple process to upgrade the entire site/template to Joomla 4 once the Joomla 4 version of the template has been released?

Hi Suzanne

Presuming you haven't edited any of the core template files (../templates/[YourTemplate/*), updating to Joomla 4 would simply require you to install the Joomla 4 version of your template via your extensions manager.

On that basis I will go ahead and start new sites with the Joomla 3 versions of the templates for now.

Hi Ciaran,

I was delighted to see that the Joomla 4 version of Layla is now available.

I built the site on the Joomla 3 version and would like to update to the Joomla 4 but cannot see the Joomla 4 version in my download area.

Does that mean that the Joomla 4 version has to be purchased separately?

Hi Suzanne

Yes the Joomla 4 version of each template is a separate download/purchase to the Joomla 3 version. If you are already subscribed to the J51 Layla template for Joomla 3, you can use the following coupon which will give you a 50% discount on the Joomla 4 version of the template...

Hi Ciaran,

Yes, I am logged in.

Message is " The coupon code you entered is invalid or expired ", only times I got past that it seemed to be charging full price so I did not proceed.

Additionally there is a message at the top of the page "Please enter information on the form below to process renew subscription for J51 - Layla for 90 days. The price you have to pay is €24.00."

Does that mean that Lifetime Forum Support and Lifetime Updates Access no longer applies to purchased templates?

Strange indeed. I have just tested the code and it appears to be working fine. Can you confirm that it is the Joomla 4 version of the template that you are purchasing and not the Joomla 3 version?.... https://joomla51.com/joomla-4-templates/j51-layla-j4/sign-up

Hi Ciaran,

Apologies for my delay in replying, I don't seem to be receiving J51 emails (error at my end).

I tried again using the code J4LAYLA1321 and logged in then used the the link https://joomla51.com/joomla-4-templates/j51-layla-j4/sign-up

All worked fine this time.

I just found the J51 page that lists the template update timeline along with discount codes for those who had already subscribed to J3 versions of the templates.



Thanks for this it is very helpful in particular to see the timeline.
