Hi Ciaran,
I encountered a very strange issue (maybe a bug) in SKYLAR template with nested menus. The strange thing about it: The issue only appears for one menu item.
As you can see in Menu_Issue_Pic1.jpg, I navigate in the top menu via "Politisches" - "Windkraft" to "Die Planung". Up to now everything seems to be okay. But when I try to go down to the next menu item "Die Simulation" the menu on level 4 (from "Standorte" to "Wind-Messstation" suddenly jumps to the left as in Menu_Issue_Pic2.jpg, making it impossible to navigate to the subsequent menu items.
I have other deeply nested menu items, but the menu items under "Windkraft" are the only ones to show this behaviour.
What I found out in addition: If I use the very leftmost edge of the menu box -so that menu item "Die Planung" doesn't get the focus-, I can navigate correctly.

The issue doesn't depend on the browser. I've tested with the current versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. Once even the browser tab in Firefox crashed.

If you would like to see the issue yourself, I can temporarily grant superuser access to you.

Best regards,
Rolf

Hi Rolf

May I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will examine this issue further. For our reference please paste a link to this post in your email.

Hi Ciaran

in addition: Deeply nested menus don't look exceptionally nice, as seen in Menu_Issue_Pic3.jpg

I've sent a mail with superuser credentials for my dev site.

Hi Ciaran,

I've come to the conclusion that the horizontal navigation doesn't fit well to my deeply nested menu structure.
My new idea: Use the top menu for 2-4 "favourites" and place the main menu into module position Sidecol-1a. This looks perfect in desktop, but for the mobile view there is an issue: The mobile menu displays my favourites instead of tmy mainmenu.
Question: How can I achieve to use the main menu for the mobile menu?

Best regards
Rolf

Hi Rolf

Thank you for the update.

I have amended your mobile menu to display the main menu in your sidecol-1a module position.

Hi Ciaran,

thank you very much! Can you please tell me how you assigned my main menu to the mobile menu?! I might need to play that trick for an additional website.

Rolf

Btw: This might be a subject for your "Tutorials".

Hi Ralf

To replicate you can copy over the following 2 files of your template....

../templates/j51_skylar/inc/variables.php
../templates/j51_skylar/index.php

The conversion is a bit of a process so what we are considering is to create an option in the template settings allowing you to define the menu used for the mobile menu.

Hi Ciaran,

if I understand correctly, you created overrides for the file variables.php and index.php.

It would be great to have an option in the template settings to choose the menu for the mobile menu. I'm quite sure that other users of your template would like that kind of option as well.

Hi Rolf

I have just updated the Skylar template, adding this feature (v1.0.5). You can now define what menu to display in the mobile menu via the Responsive Options tab of your templates settings using the Select Mobile Menu field.
