is it possible to have one single item + subitem in the main menu in strong (bold) letters?

This should be possibel with some custom CSS. Would you have a URL to an example of your menu? Have you tried the method described in the following tutorial.. http://www.joomla51.com/tutorials/item/applying-color-to-a-single-menu-item-in-joomla
