Some clarification, please. Bought the Serenity template and was hoping to upload with with content and settings similar to the demo. Am I correct in assuming that the "demo" file is a full install of Joomla and the template? Is there a way to upload the template with the content and setting as shown in the demo? Thanks.

Hello

Yes this is correct. The template 'demo install' is a copy of Joomla with the template and accompanying modules, the template demo images and all sample data included. I am sorry to say there is no option to install the template demo content to an already existing copy of Joomla (eg via the Extensions Manager).

For details on setting up the demo installer may I suggest the following article.. https://joomla51.com/tutorials/item/setting-up-the-demo-installer
