Hello Ciaran,

I should have asked you this question a long time ago when I first started to used Joomla.. Privilege is my first template (guinea pig) and I am still learning.

Do I have to wait until my Joomla site is complete before it's published. Can I publish what I have and as I continue to design publish those pages later? I've reviewed Joomla Documentation and other sites and can't find a direct answer. I've asked my host and they told me I have to finish the complete site. I have a hard time believing that Joomla can be this sophisticated and not allow me the ability to publish as I go. This is why it's taking me so long to get my site up because I am so busy.. but I'd like to start publishing what is complete.

Wasn't sure where to ask the question.. Thanks

April

Hi April

Every site is different so I believe there is no set rule for the best time to publish. Personally I believe if you have enough content and and your site looks and feel complete well it is safe enough to publish. Traffic will be slow at first. Search engines love to see that you are continually writing content for the site. From an SEO perspective it would be better to publish now and continue writing content than publishing when all your content has been added.

OK.. I thought about that.. but what about incomplete pages or if I'm still developing pages that I don't want to be seen. Can I still work on these while it's published? So if they click on the menu item of a page I'm working on.. can I direct it back to the home page? I need to test this. Years ago I used a webpage design software that allowed me to do this.. but couldn't figure it out with Joomla.. Thanks

Hi April

For menu items linking to pages that are incomplete you can set the access to 'registered' so only logged in users will see them. If you wish you can also create a new access level (Users -> Access Levels) so only you can see these menu items.
