Hi
I'm planning a web upgrade to Joomla 4.
Currently using Novah for Joomla 3.x
Is it just buy, download and install or are there any other issues to deal with as far as template is concerned?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Regards,
Juan

Hi Juan

Yes you can ignore all warnings and simply update to Joomla 4. Once you have updated to Joomla 4, simply install all Joomla 4 template and modules form the Joomla 4 download of your template via your Extensions Manager. Dont at any point uninstall a template/module as all database information related to that extension will be lost.

Hi,
Revisiting this topic.
I've tested the upgrade to J4 procedure as stated in the joomla.org Step by Step Migration, prior to going live.

Concernig J51 for J3 products installed in my web, I deleted all of them prior to upgrading and, after migrating I installed their J4 versions. However I found I had lost all the contents and cofiguratiion of modules and template I had.

I hence conclude that I should not remove them, but leave them installed and, after migrating, then install the J51 template and modules for J4 on top of the already J3 versions.

My question is: Should I leave all J51 products installed and disable them prior to migrating, or simply ignore warnings?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Regards,
Juan

Hi Juan

To be fair, updating from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 is quite painless compared some older core Joomla updates. It should be as simple as you describe. The biggest issues we have found is if you have any other 3rd party extensions installed that may not be Joomla compatible. In particular plugins as they can affect both the frontend and the backend.
