Hi Ciarán,
Yesterday a customer complained to me that she could not change an image in her Layerslideshow. Indeed the image could be selected from her machine and she could press the 'upload' button. The image was, however, not uploaded.
I went over to her and tried uploading it using the media manager. Lo and behold: Here the error message was quite clear. Turned out the image was something ridiculous, like 5000 pixlels wide and had a file size that by far exeeded what was allowed on the server.
The problem is that Layerslideshow seems to shrug and keep things to itself.
Now I know why this does not work, my customer knows it as well, but the next guy who tries uploading too-biggy images is left in the dark.

Any idea how to fix this?

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris

As the slideshow module uses the core Joomla media manager to upload an image, it should throw an error if the image exceeds the files size allowed by the server. I would be curious if the same image can be uploaded with the media manager directly (eg. J4 -> Content -> Media -> Upload)?

Hi Ciarán,
no it can't
I went over to her and tried uploading it using the media manager. Lo and behold: Here the error message was quite clear.

My concern only is that no error message was thrown by the module.

Thank you Chris

Indeed it looks like the media manager message error logging is not available within a module. I will raise a ticket in Joomla core to see if media manager error logging can be extended for modules. If not then we will have to create our own error logging within the module.
