The issue is that any page that is accessed by a drop down menu does not load correctly.

The issue appears to be related to your SEF URLs as disabling has resolved the issue. May I suggest the following article on troubleshooting SEF URLs. The article is for Joomla 1.5 however a lot of the information you would still find relevant.

thanks. it i s working but is it ok /safe bad for ranking to have this turned off?

my helpful host says this..
I have reviewed your SEF options and the content of .htaccess file. During the investigation I did not find incorrect entries or settings. I think the problem is CSS related and would be better to contact your developer. He / she should be able to address the issue correctly.

can you suggest anything else please?

Have you tried turning on URL rewriting to remove the 'index.php from your SEF URLs?
