Hello,
I’am using a few J51 templates for my sites: J51_Florence, Ashley, Caitlin, Vitality and London.
Since a couple of days Google Search says: “New Mobile Usability issues detected for site – “Clickable elements too close together” & “Content wider than screen”.
This is new to me and this happens with a J51_Ashley and a J51_Vitality site. Probably other sites will follow, while I didn’t made any CSS-changes in my sites.
Because according to Google Search this can influence the ranking, I am very curious how to handle/correct these issues. Any suggestions ?
Or, since I need to restyle some of my sites, I might consider to buy a new template which doesn’t cause these issues. Is there already such template ?
Thanks

Hi Ciaran,
The reported problem occurs with the following 2 sites:
Dansstudiosteps.be (designed with J51_Ashley, purchased 4/2/16)
and
Toycollector.be (designed with J51_Vitality, purchased 25/11/16)
In all my sites I have modified the robots.txt file by design and deleted the lines that refer to \ images, \ media and \ templates, according to this tip: https://joomlaseo.com/checklist/robots-txt-for -search engines. So Google has definitely access to these folders since the launch of my sites. So I think that the robots.txt doesn't cause these issues.
Another site designed with J51_Ashley does not have the problem. Also my other sites that have been developed with J51_Florence, J51_Caitlin and J51_London, do not give a problem, at least for yet!
So I think the problem is probably not template-linked and also not robot.txt-linked. So there must be something in the site itself, but I have no idea where to start looking. Can you please take a look?
Since I plan to restyle some of my sites with another template, this might be a solution, but I need tot know anyway what causes these issues and be sure that a new template doesn't generate the same issue.
Thanks

Thank you
Is there particular pages on your site presenting your mobile issues? We have tested the homepage of each of your sites and they both show green. Some errors but nothing template related. Template related issues tend to be site wide.

Hello Ciaran,
Thank you for examining this issue.
Google Search Console indicates that both problems ("Clickable elements too close together" & "Content wider than screen" occur on the following pages:
http://dansstudiosteps.be/step-aerobic
http://toycollector.be/dolls
No problems are detected on all other pages.
This seems strange to me, because this page is simular to all other pages in the relevant menu and all these pages are based on a single article.
Additionally, I tested both pages with: https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?hl=en and this test indicates that "this page is suitable for mobile devices".
I can not understand the logic of Google.
Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks

Hello
It is difficult to say for sure as the information from Google does detail the exact area of your page that is causing the issue. Considering that the issue is only present on a single page would indicate that it is not a template related issue which is loaded on all pages. I notice that one of the tests does not appear to pick up your template CSS which would certainly cause the test to fail. Is there anything server side that may cause the CSS to be inaccessible to Google?
On the second page, does disabling your gallery extension resolve the issue?

Hello Ciaran,
I ran different tests on different url's with https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?hl=en and always got the message that all pages were "successfully loaded" and that the pages are "mobile friendly". At which test did you see that the template css would not be accessible? Seems strange to me because according to both robots.txt files this should not be the case. I suppose you dan see both robots.txt. Would you have any suggestions to adjust these robots.txt?
Disabling the gallery extension did not make any changes.
Indeed it does not seem to be a template-related or robots.txt-related problem. I have not yet checked the server site, but do not expect a problem here. Anyway I will contact my host.
Because I only use J51-templates for all my sites and - for the time being - only get these problems for 2 sites and only 2 pages, this is a weird situation.
I don't make any changes yet and will click "validate fix" for every problem and wait until Google has crawled again.

Hello Ciaran,
I have followed the tip of this (dutch forum) http://joomlanl.nl/forum/3-x-templates-en-layout/55924-content-schijnbaar-te-breed-gek-genoeg-niet-op-alle-pagina-s#159148">topic and I have not made any adjustments, simply because I think there are no problems. I then clicked on "validate fix" and received notice from Google that the validation procedures were starting. Today Google tells me that all problems are solved. Understand who can !
Apparently, Google is a bit confused, why is not clear but it seems that Google's tests are still not ready.
Also today I get another message that there are the same mobile usability problems with another site. I know what to do now !
Thanks for your time.
