Sure.. to remove try adding the following to the Custom CSS field of your templates parameters...


.module ul.menu a, .module_menu ul.menu a {
background-image: none;
padding-left: 0;
}

Ensure that the template you are using has FontAwesome. FontAwesome is only on newer template releases.

Some extensions exist which allow some FontAwesome integration.. http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/ns-font-awesome
