I haven't found the answer on a search but I'm sure it's been asked already

I have 4 joomla sites using J3

J51_Substance,
J51_Metropolis
J51_Kinvara
J51_Calibra

Only Kinvara has a J4 version. Do I need to repurchase Kinvara? and will the other 3 work with the migration to Joomla 4?

Thank you

Thank you kindly. Now I have a second question. Did I read accurately someplace that it is important to do the update to Joomla 4 BEFORE updating the template?? Will the Joomla 3 template not break the site?

Hi Glen

No I dont believe it really matters the order in which you update however your site will not load correctly until both Joomla and your template have been updated.

OK. Also
in the
Extensions Pre-Update Check (Update Information Unavailable)
These are listed as well:
J51_Carousel
J51_LayerSlideshow

Will these be included with the theme update?

And with the template update will I lose the custom css, style settings, footer, menus, flavicon, etc

Thanks

Hi Glen

All Joomla 4 module extensions are included with the Joomla 4 template download.

All template styles and settings will be kept when updating to Joomla 4. I would recommend backing up your template folder prior to updating (../templates/[YourTemplate])

Regarding your answer above
"No I dont believe it really matters the order in which you update however your site will not load correctly until both Joomla and your template have been updated."

So I assume the back end will still work ok, so I can update the template once Joomla is updated.

Hi Glen

Yes. Installation of your Joomla 4 template will have no effect to your administration.#

I moved this question to it's own thread. This one, below, can be trashed.

I need a reminder on how to install the template. Do I do the entire zip file, or extract it. Do I do each extension separate or do the whole folder at once? Do I pick update or install from extensions/manage.

Thanks

All fine with the above.

But
Once converted to J4 there were pages on my staging site that didn't load. Actually the same pages didn't load on the main site (from which I got the .jpa file for the staging site). The main site is not yet updated to J4 so I assume the error occurred due to one of the latest J3 updates. The server tech support noted:

"The error "500 behavior::caption not found" can be caused by HTML overrides that are not compatible with J4. They are stored at: theme_root/html

After renaming the folder at:

httpdocs\prairiechristmastrees.org\stage2023\templates\j51_kinvara\html

To "html.renamed", the pages seem to be loading now:

https://www.prairiechristmastrees.org/stage2023/about-pctga
https://www.prairiechristmastrees.org/stage2023/photo-gallery
https://www.prairiechristmastrees.org/stage2023/members-only

You can rename it back / review the contents in this folder for further checking if needed.

The Joomla admin has 1 override to check on the homepage notifications which is advised to review as well."

Hi Glen

Could you try deleting the template_root/html folder and then re-installing your template via your extensions manager and see if the issue is resolved? If not, may I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will examine this issue further. For our reference please paste a link to this post in your email.

That fixed the problem,
Techsupport had just renamed it 'html.renamed'.
Anyway I deleted it and reinstalled the template (happy to see that none of my changes and corrections were affected), and this fixed the issue. Those pages are all loading fine now.

Now I'm on to updating J4 and template on the main site I think.

Thank you very much.

The remaining 3 templates I use for 3 other sites are not converted yet.
Calibra
Metropolis
Substance

Should I expect these sites to experience errors. Joomla is flagging that I need to convert to J4 ASAP.

Can we expect the rest of the templates to be updated. I only manage 4 Joomla sites and 3 of them are still pending for the J4 update because of the template. On the back end Joomla is giving me loud red flags that I have not updated to J4.
