Hi
Working on localhost with fresh j51_nina template.
All was working perfectly.
Upgrading to j5.1: trouble in admin panel of j51imagehover with following error:

An error has occurred.
0 Class "JFormField" not found

Enabling the Backward Compatibility plugin solves the problem.
Could you check the problem:

Environment:
- localhost wampserver last version 3.2.5.3
- joomla 5.1
- php 8.3.0

Hi

I found the problem in the file field/testms.php

Replace original lines 5 and 7 with:

use Joomla\CMS\Form\FormField;

class FormFieldtextms extends FormField {

Now you can disable the backward compatibility plugin.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

switching off the b/c plugin is not recommended for Joomla51 templates and extensions on J5 sites at the moment. Remember that these have been made to run under J4.

Wait for Ciaran to provide native J5 templates and extensions before switching off the b/c plugin.

Regards,
Rolf

May 2025 - having same problem. Still no J5 templates available. Did download and update Nina latest release and updated from there. Backwards Compatibility button turned off.
I'm not sure what the best way around this is going to be but it's cost me 2 days of messing around on a rush project. I'd sure love to see templates updated to current release, this type of thing set correctly as well as all the other little bits included that have come up since the various templates were released.
Love J51 templates but these things make me question my choice.

Hi Alison

Our Nina template should be now fully compatible with Joomla 5 (Eg. no need to enable the backward compatibility plugin). Are you having a particular issue?

I am trying to keep the templates up to date with Joomla. Unfortunately, Joomla breaking backward compatibility every 2 years makes its very difficult for smaller template developers like myself.

Hi Alison,

I've raised my concerns more than two months ago: See this post and my comments within. I'd really appreciate getting a solid schedule for j5-native Joomla51 templates and extensions. If I don't see anything like this, I will have to (reluctantly) start looking for alternatives to Joomla51.

Hey Ciaran

I downloaded the newest version of Nina which was still J4 and last patched Sept 2024. My hiccups with it weren't major but super time consuming - custom.css not reading in new location (addressed in diff thread) and back compatibility not on. There are still lots of extensions and stuff that need it so I have no issue with it being used (I know the J3 - J4 migration was an absolute pig). I was using your Pricing Table which after a stupid number of hours found out it required it and it was off. This is also a J issue since it throws a useless error message. Like literally a line in the message saying check BC would save so many people hours.
You have spent so much time in the forum here fixing little bits for all of us and I'd love to see those fixes incorporated back into the packages.
When I'm burning hours cursing and trying to figure out crazy stuff I like Rolf above start thinking about alternatives. I love your styles and your typography is excellent but argh.

Enough whinging and I hope a solution is found. Back to this car show site.
Thanks again
Ali
