Just to mention I'm new to Joomla but moderately familiar with html & css.
What I'm trying to achieve is to get the banner-type image logo to be at the very top of the page and have the navigation bar below it.
I also want to get rid of the text logo.
I appreciate your quick response.

Admittedly this might not be the ideal template solution for what you want to achieve, regardless..

Have you considered simply using the logo image option in your templates parameters to add your banner? It will need some custom CSS however might be an easier solution for you. Place your banner using this field then we can take a look and see can amend to your taste with some CSS.

Your only real option would be something like the following (Custom CSS field)...

#body_bg {

    padding-top: 100px;

}

.logo a {

    left: 0;

    top: -114px;

}
