Hi Ciaran,

I use Skylar-J4 on all my sites, plus some of your extensions. Everything works fine on Joomla 5.2.4 at the moment, but I still need to have the Backward Compatibility Plugin enabled. For the moment, this is not yet a problem. But in October 2025 the next major release, Joomla 6.0, will be released. Under J6, the current b/c plugin will no longer be available, with the consequence that users of your templates and extension will be stuck to J5. Therefore, my question: When will J5-native versions of your templates and extensions be available?

There is another issue building up: Template overrides. You use quite a number of template overrides for your templates (at least for Skylar-J4). This is no issue as long as the core files overridden don't change. But with each version of J5, there are more overrides to be checked. As an example: the update from J5.2.3 to J5.2.4 adds three more overrides to be checked. This check cannot be done by a normal user of your templates, but only by you or your team. That brings up my next question: Are you going to reduce the number of template overrides within your templates?

Rolf

Hi Rolf

We are working on updating each template so the backward compatibility plugin it not required and hope to have all templates updated in time for Joomla 6.

Overrides in Joomla are an ongoing issue and are somewhat a flawed concept. We are looking to stop using them entirely. This is quite easy for new templates however can be quite difficult for existing ones as overrides are in most cases the only way to achieve some of the module / components layouts.when them layouts differ from the Joomla defaults.

Hi Ciaran

Thx for your quick reply! However, IMHO you should present some kind of schedule for your products to reach j5-native compatibility.

You express your hope that you will be ready for the launch of J6. But hope is not enough! And I suppose that many website creators start their planning for the J6 upgrade by summer 2025.

Regards
Rolf
