Hello again Ciaran,

Profuse apologies but I am really struggling to get the newly released News Module to work with my Letterpress template. I am sure it is totally a user error and probably a basic failure to understand everything in the Joomla backend. :(

I've installed the module as per the tutorial but I'm not getting the hoped-for results.

Does the module need to be in a specific menu type (I've tried Category list, Single article and Single news feed)? Category list seems best so far!

I am also not sure where the module gets the image to display and whether the content for each news item is a just a basic article (with the images added under the Images and Links Tab).

Lastly, how do you get a selected article to open in a new page as per your demo rather than at the bottom of the page under the introductory blocks?

I'll provide a link again to my test site if you need it.

Best wishes

Mike

Hi Mike

It is important to note that this extension is a module rather than a component. For more details on this extension may I suggest the following article... https://www.joomla51.com/tutorials/joomla51-extensions/setting-up-the-j51-news-module

Hope this helps?

A belated reply Ciaran while I got some more 'play' time with your module. I always understood that it was a module but because a few things had eluded me I wondered if I had missed something.

In case it helps others (since I can't be the only "idiot" on the site ;) ) and, just in case I still need correcting, here are the answers to two of my questions:

  • The module works fine added to a single article which is then selected by the appropriate menu item.

  • Each article has an 'Intro Image' and 'Full Article Image' option under the Images and Links tab. I suspect if the images all have the same size ratio of width/height then the articles will align perfectly as per the demo site.

I'm now just left with one problem that has escaped my limited abilities.

In your News Module demo on the Jasmine Template clicking on an image or 'Read More' button opens the article on the same page. I cannot reproduce this and the selected full article opens beneath all the introductory articles and can only be found by scrolling down. This makes it particularly awkward on a mobile. How can I fix this in the LetterPress template please?

Best wishes

Hi Mike

Just to confirm your issue, the modules that are been displayed on parent page (location of module) are also been displayed on the child page (article page)? Would you have a URL to an example of the issue?

Thank you Mike

I have created a hidden menu item linking to your 'news' articles. This allows us to un-assign the news module to these articles which I have done.

Thanks again Ciaran for the very prompt response.

It obviously works - now I have to try to understand how!

At the moment I can't see how the 'Read More' button links to the the new hidden menu setting. However, I've found numerous other examples on your forum with a few links to tutorials on hidden menus which should give me my homework for the next few days.

I had my "Max number of Articles" set to 6 and added another article (to the 6 existing) to check that the system worked. It seems that the latest article does not displace older ones as I expected it to so it looks as though I either have to increase the number of displayed articles or have further modules to display older items.

Back to my homework and I'll be back if I can't figure it out.
