How to install a new template

Hello to all the community.
My name is Sergio, Italian, 56, web developer (Coldfusion).
I'm a total beginner with Joomla. I was looking for a beautiful template for my new personal web page, and I have fallen onto Joomla51 ecosystem.
Frankly these designs are great, and I was expecting that starting from scratch was a little easier than what I'm facing now.
Please don't take me as a perfect dumb, but I have no idea how to install a template that I may buy here, nor a template by other Joomla designs in general.
I have a shared hosting package on Hostgator, where I installed Joomla (via control panel) and now it seems to work.
I can log in into my Admin panel and I have found also the Administration/Templates area but it is unclear to me how to install a template from zero.
Is there anybody who can you tell me where can I find a tutorial to install a template from scratch ?
Unfortunately my work doesn't leave me a lot of free time, so I have decided to learn Joomla step by step working on it.
Thanks in advance for your kind help.
