Thanks.. I will check these out. I guess I should have noted that I am using this for Cashmere. Again, however is it possible to have a separate intro page? Just checking. Thanks
I just remembered that I had a video designed with a transparent background. I would like to change my background and either remove the slideshow, or use the slide show position as transparent to implement the video. I need that space. SMILE.. Thanks so much.
Presuming I understand you correctly, to remove the slideshow you can simply disable your slideshow module via your 'Module Manager' (Extensions -> Module Manager)?
Thanks for the info.. regarding module. My other obstacle is that my video is MP4 and this is not one of the legal extensions allowed for download. I tried to add it in alpha order but the system would not allow me to save it. There is an swf extension and I'm trying to convert the video. I have yet to understand how to use my chosen video Joomla Extension (ALL VIDEOS).. Any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.. Thank you.
Sorry to say I am not very familiar with the extension. Are you having issues setting up the module or integrating it in to your template? If the latter would you have a URL to an example of the extension within the template and details how is it not displaying as you wish.
Well.. When I checked the legal extensions.. the only one I see for videos is swf. I uploaded the swf file.. now I'm trying to see if I can put it in the place of the slideshow. It's an MP4 file right now.. I converted it to swf (at least I think I did). I need to try your advice and convert the slideshow module position, right? I'm not sure if I'm suppose to convert the slideshow position to a new module. Just confused how to do this.. Sometimes I think I get it.. but when I unpublished slideshow module the space disappeared. I need my video to insert into the space. SMILE
We may be able to help with some CSS.Try placing your video in the showcase module position, we can then check if the video can be styled similar to the slideshow included with the template.
After taking many exhaustive measures.. I think CSS might be the best and safest method to implement videos on my site. I am spending entirely too many hours trying to figure this out with the Joomla extensions provided and none of the developers have come to my aid, to answer my step by step instructions... also why I sometimes prefer paid software, you seem to get more help. The extensions are those listed on Cashmere's Global Configuration - Media Manager options.
I will await your response.. thanks for checking all options.
I am sorry to say we have tried locally to embed video to the background of the template without success. Could you detail for me which extensions you have tried?
Well.. after converting my video from MP4 to swf .. this is the only extension listed for downloadable files.. the rest are strictly for images. I don't know any image files with an swf extension.. so I assumed this is for a video. I just received this notification from Joomlaworks the video extension program recommended.. Maybe you can understand this.. This is what they stated
As for the slideshow module. If you want to use a video in your slideshow you have two options.
Either use a K2 Content custom module and use the media tab, or make sure that module has the Prepare Content setting for its slides. This means that the module should have the ability to render content plugins.
Not sure I can shed light on this for you. K2 is a content component for Joomla (http://getk2.org/extend), this would be a bit of an overkill if you just intend to use it to embed some video as it is a rather extensive extension. SWF files are Flash files designed for Adobe Flash.
Thanks for your response. The only reason I converted to swf is because under the Cashmere legal extensions.. swf is listed as one of the acceptable files. I just want to find a want to insert video. I have many and this will hinder the developments I have for my sites. Can you tell me what is the swf file for Cashmere? I can use any video conversion... even if there is some css code I can use as well. I have a You tube video displayed within one of my modules for another website.. but I just need it in the slideshow position for this one.
I disabled the slideshow but I need the position... displayed on my home page. Thanks
'what is the SWF file for Cashmere?' is not really a valid question. SWF is the same for flash/video as JPG is for images. There is no set type of SWF file for the template. Regardless we may be getting away from the point here
If you don't want to use an extension maybe consider using Joomlas 'Custom HTML' module (Extensions -> Module Manager -> New -> Custom HTML). You can then use the method descibed here to add your SWF file.. http://www.tizag.com/flashTutorial/flashhtmlcode.php
NOTE: I would suggest changing your editor to CodeMirror (Global Configuration) before you start working with HTML.
I think you are missing my question. I know exactly what swf is for? My question to you is.. why does it show up as an allowable file type in Cashmere Media Manager (bmp, csv, doc, gif, ico, jpg, jpeg, odg, odp, ods, odt, pdf, png, ppt, swf, txt, xcf, xls,BMP,CSV,DOC,GIF,ICO,JPG,JPEG,ODG,ODP,ODS,ODT,PDF,PNG,PPT,SWF,TXT,XCF,XLS) ,
but I'm not able to upload the swf file? Nevertheless I'll figure it out.. I have some help.. but it is a bit misleading sir. Thanks
I will definitely try your suggestion.. All I want to do is insert a flash, flv or mp4 file in place of the slideshow position. Just seems like it would be so simple.. :side: I will revisit the instructions for how to change the slideshow to article module. Will let you know what happens.. Today has to be it.. Thanks
The template has no effect on the administration of your Joomla site. It simply styles your site frontend. The issue you are having with the Media Manager will exist regardless of the template you are using. It may be worth posting a query to the Joomla forums (http://forum.joomla.org/) as to why you are unable to upload SWF files.
Oh OK.. Thanks for clarification... well I get more help from you than I do from Joomla.org.. Anywho, I created the cCustom HTML' module .. pretty easy. I just uploaded files via FileZilla but I can't figure out how to locate the path (source) to include the code. Are you saying that I can't use CSS Code? but must use HTML?
I had someone willing to go in my backend and do it for me.. but not sure how to allow access without compromising my site. Seems like I'd have to give full Admin access.. Thanks
