Hello everyone,

I'd be interested to know how you're currently handling the future of your Joomla websites, since Joomla 51 is unfortunately no longer being developed.
What alternatives are you using? Are you planning to switch to a different template provider or even a different CMS?
Or have you found your own solutions to keep your existing sites running?

I'm eager to hear about your experiences and opinions.

Best regards,
Marcel

Hi dautrich.

I have a site running Journal and I need to get it J5 and J6 compatible.

What is Journal?

If you have questions, you might post them in this forum. There are some people around that sometimes are able to help, including me. But of course, we are no real substitute to Ciarán.

Hi dautrich.

I have a site running Journal and I need to get it J5 and J6 compatible. I came here for support and found that the website support from Ciaran has been abandoned. Can you provide advice on what I need to do?

Thanks

I have reworked SKYLAR_J4 again to work under J5 and J6 again. My version even runs with the J6 compatibility plugin disabled.

I run the template on five of my sites in production, up to now without any visible errors.

just my two cents, I'm looking for SP Builder as well, but I will take a look at everything mentioned in this topic
(Yootheme, RSJoomla, Joomlaplates and now SP Builder).
I will compare cost and functionality...and I was even wondering if I should use Claude AI to have the whole website made for me..just let it search through the current site, and have it make the joomla 6 template or so...but somehow that feels wrong.

Hi everyone,

Regarding the modified version: On one hand, I would be fine with distributing my version to other users. On the other hand, I don't want to undermine Joomla51's business (should Ciàran show up again over time). Therefore, I would give away my version of SKYLAR to everybody who can provide a proof that he/she purchased SKYLAR_J4 (i.e. by sending a screenshot of his/her purchase history from the Joomla51 site).

I think that's great!

Suggestion:
Perhaps you could start a new thread with the correct title for this template.

Since the private messaging system isn't working well here, it would be helpful if you could provide a contact address where people can write to you and provide proof of purchase.

Hi Rolf,

would you mind if I took a look at your Skylar version? I've modified my templates for Joomla 6 so that everything works with the BC plugin disabled, including changing the settings.

Don't worry, I own all of Joomla51's templates; I can gladly provide proof.

Best regards, and I wish everyone a happy and relaxing Easter.

Hi everyone,

I wrote in one of my previous posts that my modified version of SKYLAR_J4 works under J6 with the J6 compatibility plugin disabled. That was a bit exaggerated: If I disable the J6 compat plugin, the template settings are no longer functional. In other words: To modify the template settings, I have to (temporarily) enable the J6 compat plugin. All the rest of the sites (frontend and backend) works fine with the J6 compat plugin disabled.

Regarding the modified version: On one hand, I would be fine with distributing my version to other users. ......For the rest of my sites, I have adapted Skylar to run under J6, even with the J6 compatibility plugin disabled...

How many files need to be changed or modified are we talking about here? (approximately)

I can't say exactly how many files there were, but it was quite a few lines of code that needed adjusting. It took me 1.5 to 2 hours per template. And it then works even without the BC plugin activated.

As long as the templates work under J6 and maybe even J7, I'll continue using them. Since I'm only concerned with the basic structure of the template anyway, I won't consider a new template developer or page builder for the time being. In most cases, and depending on the client's needs, I use the Emani template. We'll see what the future holds.

Best regards
Marcel

Hello Marcel,

if you have the templatesmade ready forJ6 maybe you can provide us with them? I,formypart, would be happy to pay for these Updates. Or for providing me with an example for the code part.
We made more than 100 websites with J51 templates.... and working with this j51 templates for round about 10 years now.

Kind regards
Oliver

eumel7 You'll have to work on all .PHP files of the template. I used Visual Source Code (VSC) for editing, which makes the task pretty comfortable.

That's a very good question. I sure wish I hadn't paid Joomla51 as much money as I did in the past year, before I knew I wouldn't get anything new for it.

I had all my websites implemented with J51_Skylar, and I've been almost completely happy with the template. I customized my sites with a lot of custom CSS to make them unique.

I also realized that there will be no future with J51. Thus, I am looking for alternatives. I see two possibilities:

  • I already succeeded in switching one of my sites to Cassiopeia. I needed some user CSS and a template override for the mobile menu, but the results look promising.
  • For the rest of my sites, I have adapted Skylar to run under J6, even with the J6 compatibility plugin disabled. This will buy me at least two to three years to find an alternative.

Since I'm an amateur and I don't make any money from building websites, a tool like Yootheme Pro is way too expensive for me.

Hi J51 friends,

I'm slowly updating the J51 website to J6. Behaviour Backward Plugin disabled, and updating across various templates is running smoothly. I still have quite a few to go, so fingers crossed.

I'm also testing with RSJoomla; using a page builder is taking some time getting used to, but so far, I'm happy with it.

Let's keep each other updated!
