The FontAwesome icon set changed between v4 and v5. Can I assume you still want to use the original icon set bundled with the template (v4) but just the most recent version of that icon set?
Hello Ciaran.
I would like to use the V5 icon set.
I already set "load font awesome" to "no" and inserted in the <head> of custom code the link to stylesheet CDN.
The problem is that some icons are not showing on some pages and I would like to host files directly on the server.
Would you have a URL to an example of your icons? Font Awesome 5 is a little more strict regarding the prefix. So rather than using simply fa-coffee, you may have to use fas fa-coffee instead.
Hi, can I add to this case?
The idea of being able to update the fontawesome version of a (commercial) template sounds very nice.
We used the new link to be able to use FA 5.7, however, the social media icons from the template (Robyn, in our case) no longer show up.
I tried to add the new icon name in the social_icons.php file of the template, but this is not enough.
Is it possible to update the template to the latest FA version, without changing the custom header code, but just hardcode it in some file of the template? (maybe an external variable)..although that would mean I would have to update the social_icons.php file too, no problem there..but is there more?
Just checking, as for some reason adding the custom header code + using the new icon name, doesn't seem to be working in j51_icons for example...(at least, not always)
I have to agree that adding FA5 is something we need to look in to. This would most likely mean dropping support for FA4 which is the reason why we haven't until now as FA4 is smaller and therefore faster to load. That said I think it is time to take the jump.
In the mean time, if you wish, you can send temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will amend your template to use the FA5 icons. For our reference please paste a link to this post in your email.
