Font Awesome external link does not work

I am using font awesome icons from the following link:

https://fontawesome.com/v5/search?q=link&o=r

I have added the following to my menu item but it does not work:

fas fa-external-link

However, this does:

fas fa-link

They are both part of version 5. Can you tell me why external-link does not work?

Did you notice that external-link is not part of the free collection?

You might try fas fa-external-link-square-alt or fas fa-external-link-alt

I did not, thank you, fas fa-external-link-square-alt works great.
