Hello

The contact component included in Joomla is rather limited with such changes. Have you considered using one of the many forms extensions available for Joomla... http://extensions.joomla.org/tags/forms

thanks again for the reply.I looked in joomla and i did not like the thought of instaling more modules as i think it increases the loading time of the website.
I guess i will have to leave it that way at the moment.
just thought
i have k2 installed and i notice that the form layout was the same as joomlas contact page i edited the k2 one and it somehow worked though not perfect. one but i could not find the location of the contact files in joomla.
Do you know the location?

Hello

To override the Joomla contact component you can copy the contents of ../components/com_contact/views to ../templates/[YourTemplate]/html/com_contact.

You can then edit these files as you wish. Joomla will look to here for the output of your contact component.

Thanks once again for the reply
that sounds like a brilliant idea.
I just checked and../templates/[YourTemplate]/html/com_contact
com_contact missing in the HTML folder.
or should i just use FTP and copy it there.
I thought it already exists and all i have to is to overwrite the content there with:
../components/com_contact/views

Hey

You will have to create this folder as it will not exist as the template does not include a com_content override. To better explain Joomla will look to your templates ../html folder first before loading the Joomla com_content. If a com_content exists in the template html folder it will load that instead of the Joomla default. For further details on this subject you can check out the following articles...

The links were very useful i will be reading more articles later.
I finally managed to get the layout the way i wanted.
The only thing i could not do was to change the font colour of the heading Contact form.
do you know how this can be changed i could not locate the line.
