Changing htacess.txt file in Kaylee temlate

Hi

I have URL rewriting selected in the Joomla backend of the website. When I rename the htaccess.txt file in public_html is says that .htaccess already exists, do I want to overwrite it.

I say yes and when I visit the live site, all I see is blank white pages. The error logs say:

PHP Fatal error: Can't use method return value in write context in /home/credit1/public_html/templates/j51_kaylee/index.php

Is the error present after overwriting the current .htaccess? If you haven't already tried, ensure to backup the file before overwriting.
