Hi there,

I have a very strange issue that has been plaguing me for many, many months. I used to use the Nadia template. Four months ago (or more) I swapped for for another template. However I continue to see dead links to old template pages.

On many occasions I have used Google console to remove the dead links, but every time Google re-scans my site, they reappear? I have also excluded the "test" directory in my robots.txt

E.g. my site : [hidden]

Examples of dead links: (google search "site:[mysite]";)

http://[mysite]/test/index.php/features/utility-classes
http://[mysite]/test/index.php/features/colour-choosers
http://[mysite]/test/index.php/vivamus-sit-amet-ante

... and even the following appear using the above Google search ?
http://www.joomla51.com/demo/0132/
http://www.joomla51.com/demo/0132/index.php/.../example-styles-2

Hoping you can shed some light on this?

All the very best,
Marc

OK thanks Ciarán - over the past 4+ months I've removed these links via the console 5-10 times now ... you'd think Google would get the message! I'll keep on plugging away...

Many thanks

Hello

Admittedly this would be more of an SEO query rather than a template query so I may not be the best persone to be asking :)

Such dead links should disappear over time. It is likely that Google has simply picked them up as content that is unlikely to change and therefore does not crawl them very often. In such case I find the best solution is to continue what you are doing a remove the via your webmaster console.

Strange.. I presume the links that you have removed no longer exist? And are not listed in any sitemap or linked to from anywhere else?

Correct - the links do not exist (get 404 error if try to follow them), and as far as I know, nothing links to them ( they are all test pages from your template). I've gone through and removed each link using Google console 5-10 times now, over a 4 month period. But each time Google re-indexes my site, they all re-appear? As I say, I even have the robots.txt file excluding all these links ... very confusing.

That does seem very strange. I wish I could offer some assistance however it is an area I have limited knowledge in. Presuming the links are linking to the same Joomla installation, ensure that both menu and article trash is empty.
