To add the current year dynamically you can use the following in the copyright field..

<span><script>document.write( new Date().getFullYear() );</script></span>

what about prefilling this little script into the copyright field of your templates (as a little service )?

I used to have a template where you would replace the current year with a "hook" like '(c)' and it would automatically replace that with the current year. So, for exmple, you could have
'Copyright: Bears Photography 2003-(c) all rights reserved'
and it would display
'Copyright: Bears Photography 2003-2023 all rights reserved'
all by itself. Was a wonderful feature.

Thank you for the suggestion. Based on this, we are currently looking into the possibility of creating a shortcodes plugin for Joomla which render such content based on bracketed text (eg. [currentYear]). I will keep you posted
