A lot of mobile browsers deliberately do not fully support position:fixed; on the grounds that fixed elements could get in the way on a small screen. Although by no means a small screen this rule also applies to the iPad.

To disable all fixed backgrounds on the iPad for this template try adding the following to the end of your templates template.css (../templates/j51_juniper/css/template.css)

That did the trick.
I wonder why it works on the iPad 3 using 768px as condition for screen width...
