I'm wondering what the best way to have the header images only show on select pages (mostly the home) is? On other templates I had a slideshow module, but now that it's in the style, is the recommended way to create a second style without the header image and apply that on other menu items instead?

Basically I want to be able to have regular articles not show the header image, similar to how the demo site works on the about us page, etc.

Thanks!

Hello

The best way to achieve this is to create multiple template styles. You can then have different template settings in each style and apply these styles to the menu items of your choice. For further details on this topic may I suggest the following article.. https://joomla51.com/tutorials/joomla-basics/creating-multiple-template-styles

Just for anyone else searching on this topic, setting the header to not display per the causes some issues as the top menu is now on top of your article content.

The best thing I found was to set it to a min height of 125 which leaves you with a similar sized border on the bottom of the HorNav as at the top and remove the images.
